Cook Finishes 16th in Sam’s Town 400

Terry Cook drove the No. 60 Wyler.com Toyota to a 16th-place finish in Friday night’s Sam’s Town 400 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway.

“This is a very solid, championship caliber team,” Cook said. “We should be running for top-five finishes and fighting for wins. But for some reason we were just off tonight. That is very uncharacteristic for this team, but it’s a situation that we all have once in a while. It doesn’t take much as close as the competition is in this series right now. I am not worried about it at all because I know when we get back to the shop these guys will take a fine tooth comb to the truck and analyze it from bumper to bumper to figure out what was wrong.”

Cook was discouraged with his night but optimistic for next race and the remainder of the races on the schedule.

“It is disappointing to run this way because we’re better than that,” Cook said. “But we’ll take a look at what we did this weekend and use that to our advantage down the road. We’re expecting to go to Michigan next week and not only run in the top five but fight for the win. We’ll stick to our rule -- that we can be upset until midnight and then we move on to the next race. The good thing about it is the race was over so late that midnight will be here in just a few minutes. We won’t dwell on this one at all and then all our energies are focused on going to and winning at Michigan.”

Cook maintains the ninth position in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship standings, just 138 points behind leader Ron Hornaday and 12 points behind Chad McCumbee for eighth.

Next up for Cook and the Wyler Racing Team is the Cool City Customs 200 at Michigan International Speedway on Saturday June 14. The 100-lap race around the 2-mile D-shaped oval in the Irish Hills of Michigan is slated to start shortly after 3 P.M. Eastern and will be televised live on SPEED. MRN Radio will have the live radio broadcast on select affiliates nationwide and on Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128.
