Cook Runs Eighth in Wyler Racing’s Home Race at Kentucky

Sparta, Kentucky (July 19, 2008) - A gutsy call for two-tires on the last stop of the night gave Terry Cook track position and allowed him to run the No. 60 Wyler.com Toyota to an eighth-place finish in Saturday’s Built Ford Tough 225 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Kentucky Speedway. Cook fought an extremely loose condition throughout most of the night but once up with the leaders Cook was able to run competitive times and stay in the lead pack.

“That was all about track position at the end,” Cook said. “It’s a lot easier to run up with the leaders than when you’re fighting tooth and nail in the pack. The truck was a real handful going into the turns early on. I was really afraid to put any wheel to it at all going into turn three because I was about to wreck it every lap. The guys in the pits worked on it and tuned on it and we finally got it pretty good at the end.”

Cook was relieved on a couple of occasions that the Kentucky Speedway racing surface is as wide as it is.

“We got up out of the groove once in turn three and just about crashed then too,” Cook said. “It’s a good thing the track was as wide as it is because at any other track we would’ve been in the wall. The truck was just evil there at that stretch in the race. It was really like a four-wheel drift every time we got into the corners. Once they got it running a little better, to where I could drive it comfortably, we talked about doing a two-tire stop late in the race. John (Quinn, crew chief) and I talked about it just after the drivers meeting. We knew tire wear wasn’t an issue and track position was going to be the name of the game. We went with two and that’s what got us a top ten here tonight.”

“That’s huge for us because this is Jeff Wyler Automotive Family country right here,” Cook continued. “The Wylers have about 30 auto dealerships within a stone’s throw of the speedway and we had something like 300 people in the stands cheering us on tonight. I couldn’t be more proud of this team to fight this hard and never give up and give all of the Wyler family guests a good top-ten run here tonight.”

On the strength of his seventh top-ten finish of 2008, Cook moved up two spots to seventh in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series championship standings, 75 points behind Todd Bodine for sixth and 85 points behind Mike Skinner for fifth.

Next up for Cook the No. 60 Wyler.com Toyota is the Power Stroke Diesel 200 at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis on Friday July 25. SPEED will have the live telecast starting at 7:30 P.M. Eastern with the green flag scheduled for shortly after 8 P.M. MRN Radio will have the live radio call on select affiliates nationwide and on Sirius NASCAR Radio Channel 128.
